Gross Gambling Revenue in Denmark Increases by 6.4 Percent
The increase is due in large to sports betting, which leads to non-lottery gross gambling revenue reaching €387 million.
Sports betting revenue increased by 23.5% to €168 million.
Comparing revenue solely for sports betting, an increase of 23.5% was seen. This is comparing the first half of 2020 to the first half of 2021. The spike can be attributed to the return of sports as the country better handles the pandemic.
An increase of 16.2% YoY for online casino revenue was also seen.
Restrictions for land-based casino slots were only lifted in May of 2021, therefore revenue dropped significantly, by 57.4%.
Q2 of 2021 sports betting increased by 76.2%.
Sports betting in this quarter brought in €88.3 million while online casinos brought in €96.1 million. The latter increase is just a 5.9% increase compared to Q2 of 2020 but nearly beats the record reached in Q1 of 2021.
Slots revenue grew to €21.9 million, a 62.5% increase, and land-based casinos grew to €4.9 million, a 122% increase.
In June, however, sports betting dropped slightly by 4.5% even during Euro 2020. Slots saw the largest increase this month since last October, up 15.1% YoY, and land-based casinos increased by 62.5% YoY, the highest since last November.
